  12. DJPMenu is a program that remotely changes settings on HP DeskJet Portable
  13. printers and HP DeskJet 300/400 Series printers for the DOS environment. It
  14. requires MS-DOS version 3.1 or later with 80 columns by 25 lines of text
  15. display (colour or monochrome). In addition, DJPMenu requires a direct
  16. connection to the printer via the parallel port of your computer. It will
  17. not work through the serial port, or through any network, or if any print 
  18. spooler (such as DOS PRINT) is installed.

  68. To install, insert the disk into drive A and type install.
  69. To run DJPMenu, change directory to C:\DESKJET and type DJPMENU at 
  70. the DOS prompt. You can also specify an option for the printer port 
  71. in the following format.

  73.        DJPMENU /pX where X can be: 1 - LPT1, 2 - LPT2 or 3 - LPT3
  74.  
  75. DJPMenu will query the printer for the current settings and display
  76. them on the screen. To speed up the query process, use the command
  77. DJPMENU /tX where 'X' is a number from 1 to 33. X multiplied by 5ms 
  78. represents the waiting time.

  80. For example: DJPMENU /p2 /t1 
  81.  
  82. specifies the printer is connected to port 2 and 5ms waiting time 
  83. for each query.

  92.   A battery is present and in use. If a power adapter is connected,

  97.   The power adapter is in use. If a battery is installed, it is 
  98.   not used to supply any power to the printer.

  124.   No battery is installed; or the power adapter is not connected;

  128.   The printer is quick charging the battery. For an empty
  129.   battery, this process will take about 6 hours or less.
  130.   (see Quick Charge Battery Activation).

  133.   The battery is being discharged. The discharging process can be 
  134.   activated by DJPMenu.

  136. o Normal Charging
  137.   The printer is charging the battery. For an empty battery, 
  138.   this process will take about 10 hours.

  143. The battery gauge will only be displayed if the battery is installed and
  144. its state is known.

  149. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move to the printer setting
  150. you want to change. Press the <ENTER> key to make your selection or
  151. the <ESC> key if you want to undo what you have changed.

  156. If a battery is installed and the power adapter is connected (and turned
  157. on), you can activate the quick charging process by pressing the F2 key.

  159. Caution: You must ensure that the battery is empty or near empty before 
  160.          starting quick charge to prevent any possible damage to the battery.

  171. The battery cannot be discharged if the power adapter is turned on.

  173. Note: Nickel-cadmium batteries lose their charge capacity if they have been 
  174. recharged multiple times without being fully discharged. It is a good practice 
  175. to fully discharge the battery and then charge it fully once a month to maintain
  176. its performance.

  178. If a battery is installed and the power adapter is connected, you can  
  179. activate the quick battery charge by pressing this key. Refer to the
  180. section on 'Quick Charge Battery Activation' for more details.

  329. reset the printer by holding down the Online and Setup buttons while
  330. turning on the printer.

  349. Set the Serial Infrared protocol. If it is enabled, the printer 
  350. can communicate with an IrDA compliant device. If it is
  351. disabled, no communication protocol is used.

  357. size works best for most situations. However, if you experience any

  363. When DJPMenu encounters any problem, it will display an error message 
  364. and give the possible solutions. 
  365.  
  366. If your PC is properly connected to a supported HP DeskJet printer, 
  367. the problems you may encounter while using DJPMenu are likely to be
  368. communication problems.
  369.  
  370. The possible causes of failure in communication between the PC and
  371. printer are as follows:
  372.  
  373. (a) Printer  - printer not turned on;
  374.                printer not online;
  375.                printer is busy;
  376.                printer is out of paper or other error conditions.
  377.                                     
  378. (b) Cable    - cable not securely connected;
  379.                cable connected to the wrong printer port;
  380.                a printer switchbox is used;
  381.                a nonstandard centronics cable is used;
  382.                cable is faulty.
  383.  
  384. (c) Computer - a spooler such as PRINT is installed;
  385.                wrong port is specified in DJPMenu
  386.                printer port is faulty.
